Honored with top awards from several international vocal competitions, Mo was the winner in the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition, the Metropolitan International Vocal Competition, the New Opera Star Vocal Competition, The American Prize in Vocal Performance--Friedrich & Virginia Schorr Memorial Award and the First Chinese International Vocal Competition. As a resident artist and opera fellowship recipient, Mo has also been invited to perform in various music festivals in America, including Metropolitan International Music Festival in New York City, Hawaiian Asian Music Festival in Honolulu, Atlantic Music Festival in Waterville, Maine, and the Chinese Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio.
In August of 2011, Mo successfully made his European debut performing the title role Fritz in Offenbach’s La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein. His opera credits also include leading roles, such as Tito in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, Piquillo in Offenbach’s La Perichole, Mario in Christof Bergman’s Piazza Navona, Alfred and Eisenstein in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Basilio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Leon in Thomas Pasatieri's Signor Deluso, Daxing Jiao in Xiang Jin’s Wilderness, and Zhimo Xu in Xueshi Zhou’s Farewell Cambridge.
In addition to operatic performances, Mo has also appeared in the world of oratorio as tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang, and J.S.Bach’s Magnificat. As a champion of art song and recital singing, the repertoire Mo performed includes songs in over a dozen languages ranging from Baroque song to contemporary literature. Gaining praise for his crystalline voice and moving performances, Mo was heard in recitals on various programs throughout Asia and North America. He has sung in renowned concert halls around the world, including Merkin Hall and the 92nd Street Y Kaufmann Concert Hall in New York City, Hawaii Theater in Honolulu, Opera City Concert Hall in Tokyo, The Symphony Hall in Osaka, Théâtre de l’Odyssée in Périgueux (France), The Beijing Concert Hall, Century Theater, and Poly Theater in Beijing, and the Shanghai Grand Theater. A native of Beijing, Mo holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from The Ohio State University where he was under the tutelage of John Robin Rice; a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University where he studied with Clayne W. Robison and Lawrence P. Vincent; a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the China Conservatory of Music where he studied with Yongzhe Jin; and a certificate of Internationalen Sommerakademie Mozarteum from The Universität Mozarteum Salzburg where he worked with world-renowned soprano Barbara Bonney.
